Michael Craven

Michael Craven is a doctoral candidate in the Department of Accounting at Washington State University. He holds a BSBA from La Salle University in Philadelphia, PA in Accounting and Economics and completed the CPA exam while working in state and local taxes (SALT). Michael's research is concerned with the accounting and reporting for employee compensation and issues. His dissertation focuses on the new Pay Ratio requirement from the Dodd-Frank act and how investors and other stakeholder will respond to this new information. His other research is concerned with corporate social responsibility (CSR), particularly relating to employee issues. He is currently working to improve the measurement of CSR related variable using a comprehensive scale development methodology. Michael has taught and been the teaching assistant for several introductory accounting courses. He believes in hands-on learning for accounting and has been instrumental in transforming Introduction to Financial Accounting at WSU into a practical learning experience for the undergraduate students. Michael enjoys teaching the foundational accounting courses because teaching a diverse group of students can be difficult but is often the most rewarding. He also has interests in teach special topics in accounting, particularly nonprofit accounting. In his limited spare time, Michael practices American Kenpo Karate, and he sings with the WSU Concert Choir, which performs on campus and conducts outreach beyond the University.
